IG Mini Swap

It is official, I am now a swap addict! In November and December I participated in my first mini swap, the IG Mini Swap hosted by Sandy (@curly_boy1) and I have since joined in with the Schnitzel & Boo Mini Quilt Swap and the Rainbow Mini Swap hosted by Kate (@katebasti).

For the IG Mini Swap I was was paired up with @tracie_bailey and details that she likes teal, turquoise, orchid, and plum. By checking out her IG feed, I could tell that she liked Tula Pink so I headed out to find some.

andpins_IGMiniSwapI chose Round-n-Round by Canoe Ridge Creations for the pattern and selected two prints of Tula Pink’s Foxfield line and some coordinating solids from my stash to create this mini. I did some simple wavy quilting to finish it up.

andpins_IGMiniSwap_backdetailI had some fun with the back with some tiny improv piecing and the salvage edge from the main print.

In return I received an absolutely gorgeous mini from Erin (@ermire); one that I had been admiring as she was working on it (and secretly hoping that it was heading my way)! I was thrilled to see it arrive on my doorstep.

andpins_ermireIGMiniCircular flying geese and rainbows! Trust me it is more stunning in person. The hand quilting is beautiful and adds a wonderful, personal element to the quilt.

andpins_ermireIGMini_detailWhile it was stressful creating a mini for a stranger, I loved the process of creating it, shipping it off, and waiting for it to be delivered. The waiting (mine was shipped to Australia)!! It was a great time and I am already looking forward to creating the mini for my Schnitzel & Boo partner – I have a plan!

#IGminiswap

Instagram is my go-to social media for a creative inspiration fix, to see someone’s latest finish, commiserate over ripping stitches, to virtually petting fabric, and watching the latest swap creations make their debuts. After watching the beautiful minis that were made for the Schnitzel & Boo Mini Quilt swap, I promised that I would jump on the next mini swap that popped up on Instagram. Enter the #IGminiswap, organized by @curly_boy1, is the latest IG mini quilt swap (with 572 participants) and I am thrilled to be a part of it.

I have been stalking my partner on IG as well as other forms of social media as well as formulating a plan for the mini I will make them. I have to have it shipped by early December and I want to get it done early!

We were asked to create a mosaic of quilts we like to help give our partner a sense our tastes, it was much harder than I thought!

Row 1: Canoe Ridge Creations, Mark Lipinski, MelissasewsNicole Daksiewicz of Modern Handcraft, Row 2: Jenna, Jean Truelove, Quarter Inch Mark, Better Off Thread, Row 3: Peace N Quilt, Mommy’s Nap Time, Julie Herman, Remember Your Karma, Row 4: Freshly Pieced, Shape Moth, Better Off Thread, Sally England

I enjoy looking at what I ended up with – I love geese and, apparently, I am drawn to rainbow colored quilts (maybe one needs to go onto my to do list).

What swaps are you, or have you been, a part of?
