Pew, Pew, Pew

I have a few Star Wars fans in my life and my cousin (friend, sister, etc.) is a large one. Her birthday was in May and I knew exactly what to make her! Kristy at Quiet Play designed some amazing paper pieced Star Wars patterns which are up in her shop for free, including the AT-AT pattern I used.

I copied the pattern at 125% and hit my stash for some gray fabric. I used a variety of Konas along with gray and black yarn dyed Essex Linen for the AT-AT. With Kona white for the background I sashed the block in a forest green cross weave and black yarn dyed Essex Linen to make a 20″ pillow.

I used the same hidden zipper technique that I used for my Poison pillow to finish it up.

Fabric Friday: Meadow

andpins_fabric_Meadow

Happy Friday! This stack of beauties is destined to be my Meadow Quilt from Lizzy House’s pattern. I took her workshop with the Philly MQG two weeks ago and learned so much. Lizzy is a great teacher and a down to earth person. I am excited to hear her lecture next week.

I pulled my fabric stack two days before my workshop picking up the green Grove by Alison Glass for the background and lime American Made Brand solid for the petal centers from my local quilt shop on my way home from work. I knew that I wanted to do solid petals so I pulled my stash of Essex Yarn Dyed Linen which includes black, charcoal, and gray. My center field will be all low volume. I was pretty happy with my pull of 17 fabrics and I added one from Becky’s stash during the workshop. It contains a lot of Carolyn Friedlander, some Cotton + Steel Basics, a Jessica Levitt, and some other unknowns from my stash.

I am looking forward to clearing my to do list over the next few weeks so I can get started on this one.

MOD 2015

I was lucky enough to attend Mid-Atlantic MOD in late April with friends from both the Philly and Baltimore MQGs. I had a wonderful time this year and am already looking forward to next year. Here is a brief, but photo heavy recap.

I participated in the Secret Sewist Swap and snuck around for three days dropping off packages for my partner. She was a huge Alice & Wonderland fan so my final gift was a mini from a paper pieced pattern that I drafted myself.

I filled her days with a graphic novel, pencils, a fun notepad, and a bunch of other little things. Her other handmade gifts were a lanyard and key fob made out of Essex Linen and some Allison Glass. I included a set of scissors because she mentions on IG that she is a scissor loser.

My secret sewist was a Philly MQG member who sat behind me all weekend!

From a ring holder to a bottle of wine (with a awesome insulated tote bag, konas, chai, and a card holder in-between), she knows me well!

I also participated in a mini quilt swap. Here is mine:

We all got together one evening and played a super drawn out, but fun game that involved swapping, stealing, and other debauchery. It was so much fun to see the minis that others made and to watch the ones that people fought over.

After loosing it twice and stealing it back, I ended up with Andrew’s lovely green and low volume mini that I love.

All and all it was a lovely weekend getting to know Philly MQG friends better than I had before, relaxing, sewing, learning, and mostly chatting.

Here are a few more photos from my IG feed.
